Our newest rig is a custom-designed mega fun machine. What’s that mean? It’s purpose built and features a few special bits and bobs that really makes it fun to rip around on.
Read on to learn what makes this ride so interesting.
A big thing in the industry now is accommodating the veritable tastes of riders with machines that can multi-task. Whether you want to squeak out a hundred miles on unpredictable road surfaces, take on a few days of remote single track with camping gear in tow, or do your round-town riding on a bike that doesn’t feel like an old dutch granny, bikes are beginning to catch up. As riders have evolved, so too have their rides.
So we were put to task building a bike that was versatile enough to take on a multi-day tour but also would work well in the day-to-day grind. Comfortable, but nimble enough to dodge traffic. Parts were purpose picked. Swept city handlebars adorned with Brooks and a bitchin’ brass bell. We matched up a Brooks Flyer Special keep the backend feeling fine for miles and miles. The real kicker is the Shimano Alfine 11.
Although Shimano has long offered its Nexus line of internally gears, it then launched it’s Alfine 8 with the intention to create a line of higher quality internally geared hubs. They’ve since expanded the line and offer the Alfine 11. That means 11 gears with an even spread of gear ratios over a range of 409%. With the introduction of the 2015 line, we’re in love. The shifter mechanism and cable carrier for the rear have been redesigned making the shifting more natural and on-the-fly assembly a snap
Did we mention though? Most important this bike is fun. Super fun. It laps up traffic with the ride quality of magic carpet. It may be simple, but all the important details are covered. Least you could ask of your bike is that it ride like a dream, right?
